The Inaugural Kokoda Challenge Brisbane
Anaconda was proud to be one of the major sponsors and take part in the Kokoda Challenge in Brisbane. This event is a fundraiser aimed at making a difference to young teens lives through their youth programs which instill the Kokoda spirit of mateship, endurance, courage and sacrifice.
4 of our Anaconda Morayfield team members hiked through some of Brisbane's toughest terrain.
The track undulated through lush green scenery in the west of Brisbane Forest Park. Starting at Brookfield showgrounds and making its way up to the checkpoint at McAfee's Lookout before returning to the showgrounds via the tropical terrain of D'Aguilar National Park. This area is reminiscent of the Owen Stanley Ranges in Papua New Guinea. The 30k distance was coupled with wide open fire trails and the course is not without its toils. As you descend down to a creek bed you encounter a sharp turn onto a narrow trail aptly named the 'hell hole' that ensures you don't forget the meaning of endurance before arriving at the finish line. There were over 400 competitors and it took the Anaconda team over 8 hours to complete.
The Anaconda Team
Our team had a great time, starting out with much laughter and zest, and while at the end it could not be described as zest, the team certainly had smiles from ear to ear. It was difficult but it was an empowering experience and the team can not wait to take on the course again next year and beat their record.
A big shout out to some of the Anaconda teams gear sponsors: Blackwolf, Vigilante, Hi-tec.
What a great experience! What a great cause!
